This is me complaining.

I’m exhausted. I’ve been making ads all week. We’ve had multiple people interested in selling for us which I’ve had to meet and get information for and from. Technology broke down. Signs were supposed to be updated yesterday but things got so busy and behind at the office that I had to stay and put out fires and fix last-minute changes. The phones rang. There is a new business beside us that is currently undergoing some construction. Constant Noise. Today I traveled to Atlanta to meet with an ex boyfriend because his company acquired one of our companies. A blessing mixed with a whole bunch of awkwardness. Updating signs tomorrow and ad changes are still coming in. Looks like I’ll be updating the signs twice this month, which involves me driving all over middle Georgia with a giant ladder. It’s a full day activity. I hate ladders. Family drama. We had an apartment inspection this week that we found out about the night before. Clean. Everything. Also, I don’t think I mentioned that I am dealing with some killer cramps this week. Like, Ouch.

Tired. Whiny. Short tempered. Wit’s end. My mindset most of the week.

This is me hearing God loud and clear.

I recently joined The Intentional Filling’s Winter Book Club. The book is Lisa Terkurst’s The Best Yes. To be honest I didn’t expect to gain too terribly much from the book in this season of my life.  The book is about finding your ‘best yes,’ not worrying about saying yes to everything, because we weren’t created to accomplish everything, just what God has equipped us and wants us to do. The best yes for our lives to bring glory to God.

Chapter 5: God’s Words, Ways, and Wonder. It begins with Terkeurst explaining her decision-making process when discernment doesn’t bring an immediate yes or no answer. “Could this fit physically, financially, spiritually, emotionally?” Using knowledge and wisdom to help discern the best course of action for this decision.

But then she made a point and I found myself scrambling for a pen…

” God’s Word addresses the approach I take with my activities: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

God’s ways address the attitude I have with my activities: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest in your souls.” (vs 29)

God’s wonder is the assurance that not every activity is my activity: “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (vs 30) …

But while the Bible might not address my activities in specifics, it certainly does address my approach to those activities in specifics.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17) “

Whatever I do. In word or deed. My approach must honor Jesus.

Like, Ouch.

Nothing about my approach or attitude has honored Jesus. This has been a stressful week. Murphy’s law has kicked my butt. But not once did I stop to think that maybe this was an opportunity for my attitude to adjust and glorify God in spite of my circumstances. It was all about me.

Then God gently reminded me it wasn’t. Even my bad days are to glorify Him.

“Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4

I am so glad the Lord is patient with me. I’m thankful for this opportunity to grow. To learn patience, kindness, compassion, gentleness… maybe even a little self-control.

How has your week been? I hope that whatever situations you find yourself in, you remember that your approach and attitude are just as important as your actions.
